Saturday Luncheon Keynote Speakers

Assistant Chief Dick Reed and
Detective Kim Bogucki

We are honored to have Assistant Chief Dick Reed and Detective Kim Bogucki of the Seattle Police Department as our keynote speakers for Esprit 2010. Assistant Chief Reed is the SPD sponsor of the SPD/LGBT Advisory Committee and his role of police involvement/support within the LGBT Community will enlighten all present as to how this major police department in the Pacific Northwest is working with our community for understanding, justice, and support of our community. Detective Kim Bogucki (who is openly lesbian within the SPD) will tell you how she has actually been involved with TG juveniles and several other projects with which she is involved. Together they will present a unique perspective and provide insights of a major national police department's involvement in support of our community.

Assistant Chief Dick Reed is the Commander of the Field Support Bureau which includes Human Resources, Information Technology, Training and the 9-1-1 Center.

Assistant Chief Reed began his career as a police officer in 1985. He worked vehicle, foot and bicycle patrol assignments during the first five years of his career in the East Precinct. He served in the audit and procedures unit and as a burglary theft Detective before being promoted to Sergeant in 1994. As a Sergeant, he was assigned as assistant to the Investigations Bureau commander. Later he served as a Bicycle Patrol Sergeant in the West Precinct.  Dick served in Internal Investigations first as a Sergeant and then continuing after his promotion to Lieutenant in 1997.

Detective Kim Bogucki has been a member of the Seattle Police Department (SPD) for more than 21 years. Kim became involved in community outreach work to form a closer bond between the SPD and the people it serves, as a means of effecting positive change. In 2004, Kim was the co-creator of the Youth Outreach Unit. She is currently assigned to the Department’s Community Outreach Unit.

Deeply inspired by the individuals of the populations she serves, Kim has developed and implemented many programs for youth and homeless that promote their unique voices to drive positive change. Programs Kim has developed have been implemented nationally, including The Doughnut Dialogues; Role Reversal; and the West Side Story Project.
